Association

1984 > When tracing our federation to its origins, we have to go back to the year 1984, when Gerald Eisenack, who is now our main instructor, convinced Mr. Ishihara of the Japanese embassy in the GDR to give a group of interested people an impression of the art of iaido. Ishihara sensei, a disciple of Esaka sensei, became the first teacher of Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iaido in Germany.

With this origin, continuous practice commenced. Esaka sensei started coming to Germany to improve the quality of iaido in Germany. Under his supervision, intensive seminars were held every year including examinations for kyu- and dan grades. Over time, more and more people all over Germany found their way to Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iaido and over the years today's dojos were founded.

1993 > Following a personal wish of Esaka sensei, a German Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iaido Federation was registered with the Register of Associations, making it an organization to comprise all people practicing iaido in Germany and establishing comparable quality standards for everyone.

1994 > Our associations main instructor Gerald Eisenack sensei received the authorisation, to spread iaido in Germany and to hold examinations up to 5. Dan from the headmaster of Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iaido Japan Fukui Seizan Torao Soke.

2011 > On 2 May 2011, our new umbrella association „Ippan Shadanhoujin Seitou Seiryu Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido Kokusai Renmei” (abbreviated as “Kokusai Renmei”) was founded. On the one hand, this decision was motivated by Esaka Sensei’s growing and deep concern about the survival and transmission of traditional technique within the Zen Nihon Iaido Renmei (ZNIR); on the other, there was the decision of the Soke about the status of non-Japanese Iaidoka. Esaka Sensei was unwilling to support these developments – not least due to his responsibility for us. For these reasons, Esaka Sensei has resigned from all his functions in May 2011 (vice-presidency of the ZNIR, presidency of the ZNIR in the Kanto region, including Tokyo), quit the ZNIR, and founded our new international umbrella association. We respect this decision of Esaka Sensei and trust in his leadership.

2011 > In November we have been registered as German shibu (branch) of the Kokusai Renmei.
